Dial800 specialists featured at industry’s ERA convention

The Dial800 team will be with some 3,400 attendees at the annual D2C Convention sponsored by the Electronic Retailing Association in Las Vegas this month. And two company specialists will be sharing knowledge with their colleagues.

Dial800 CEO James Diorio will be guest panelist at the Master Class series “Direct Response 101: Leveraging Offline and Online Marketing to Achieve Greater ROI” Tuesday at 8:30 am. Caitlin Haire will lead the panel made up of Diorio, Fern Lee and Adrienne Vigilante in delineating ways to optimize DR methodologies like those used at Dial800.

On Wednesday at 10:45 a.m., Dial800 Director of Marketing Jennifer Powell will present on “Optimizing our Live Marketing Channel: The Connection Between Voice and Digital.” Because mobile calls drive $1 trillion in U.S. consumer spending, she notes, the natural connection between voice and digital can lead to strategies that boost live traffic.

Dial800 will also be one of 108 exhibitors at the 26-year-old convention considered the largest global event for DR strategy. This year’s version will also feature 15 other learning sessions with titles ranging from “D2R: It’s Hot and It’s Not What You Think” to “Customer Profiling + Competitive Intelligence for a Winning Strategy.”

Keynote speaker is Mikael Greenlief of the New York-based Giant Spoon marketing agency, discussing how marketers and brands can leverage technology, data and digital beyond just powering programmatic banner ads, video and TV spots.

Other features of the conference include multiple networking sessions; a new product showcase; video viewing opportunities; pitch sessions by professionals and inventors; a Women in Business pavilion; an Inventor of the Year presentation, a golf tournament and (bonus!) three parties.

Wrapping up the series is a gala honoring winners of the annual Moxie Awards, a competition offering 24 categories ranging from Best DR Website Design to Best Presenter. Additional awards include Marketer of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and DR Icon Award (recognizing a celebrity or TV personality). This year’s ERA Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Dan Danielson of Mercury Media.

Last year 60 percent of attendees at the D2C Convention were top-level managers, and 67 percent were marketers specializing in multichannel. Last year, 17 percent come from overseas. Fifty percent of attendees reported solidifying a deal or signing a contract at the event, while 46 percent generated six or more leads.

Annual sponsor the Electronic Retailing Association is a trade group for leaders in the direct-to-consumer marketplace, which is based in Washington, D.C. Members maximize revenues through direct-to-consumer marketing on television, online, mobile and radio. The group has organized a related convention in Las Vegas since 1990. Show proceeds fund industry and member services.

In April the ERA formed a strategic alliance with the 12-year-old Internet Retailer Conference and Exhibition (IRCE) to increase opportunities for business growth networking and education on both sides. IRCE participants include the world’s most innovative e-commerce professionals, while ERA members include leaders in direct-response television, online and radio. Moving forward, the groups will now partner at three annual events: D2C, the Great Ideas Summit in San Juan, Puerto Rico each February and IRCE in Chicago each June. Participants from both communities can access special offers for first-time attendees. IRCE is known as the world’s largest and most well-known e-commerce conference and exhibition, garnering nearly 10,000 attendees, 220 expert speakers, more than 130 conference sessions and 600 exhibitors each year.

Diorio oversees Dial800’s business strategy and overall product direction. Under his leadership, the company acquired subsidiary Custom Toll Free in 2014 and has been named to the Inc. 5000 Hall of Fame these past six consecutive years. Diorio has a history of creating and managing successful businesses, projects and teams over more than two decades in advertising, marketing, operations and software. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of California-Santa Barbara with a B.S. in computer science.
